Sherwin Williams

Sherwin Williams keeps it retro at Citizen's Bank Park. Is there really a better slogan for paint, or a better representation of said slogan? I certainly can't think of one, and really can't wait to buy a house, just so I can paint it with the official paint of the Phillies.

L. Pini & Sons

Another Hoboken sign, and the gold (or silver) standard. L. Pini & Sons gives you a lot to love. Not only do they have amazing old school metal lettering, but went all the way with the custom painted sign above their door. My only complaint, and it is minor, is with the ampersand between Pini and Sons. It could be a bit bigger, but much like a Navajo blanket, there needs to be a small mistake, so you can see the magnificence of the entire work.

A close up look. I love the shortening of Contractors.

Chinese Elephants

This is from Beijing, and taken strictly for the great icon of the elephant snuggling a (gigantic) bird. Also, notice the lettering under the golden elephant. Either they ran out of matching letters, or intended it to look a little like a ransom note.

Hoboken Ghost Sign

This is a 'ghost' sign in Hoboken, that no one has ever removed or restored. It's amazing that someone hand painted this sign years ago, and that it still exists even though the store has long gone out of business. It's hard to see all of the wording in these pics, but the icons of the drafting supplies are so great.

A closer look at them.

The 5 Nations

Somehow a developer in Conshohocken PA decided at some point in the '70s to dedicate a highrise to one of the greatest of the Native American Tribes of the 5 Nations. Apparently ignoring the fact that the tribe resided mostly in upstate New York and Canada.

Whatever the case may be, the lettering is amazing. The "s" gives the whole building a jaunty air that I'm pretty sure doesn't exist on the interior, and the "a" and "p" makes me think this should have been a logo for a failed ABA team in Rochester.

Super Awesome Van...

...and I say that with no irony involved.

Check out Mancini Electric. Not only did they choose some rad graphics for their van, but they then got it painted by hand, with lots of little details. If I had electrical needs I would call them first.

Let's look up close at the lettering. The slant on the M and the E, the triangles on the i's and that final "c." Then you have the lightning bolt cutting through a field of electricity. Pure Genius.

Don't worry, they carried the lettering around to the back, and kept things consistent.

My only regret is that I didn't get to see this executed on a t-shirt.

This sums it all up

Here is the reason this blog is in existence.
Aaron Draplin (using a the F word a lot) says it all better than I will ever be able to.
